Last night was a major embarassment

As you might know:-

I’m a keen cyclist and currently gearing up for another 100 miler.

Well, to increase my weekly miles I decided to join a bunch of guys who ride out from a nearby town.

I’d been forewarned this was gonna be a “pacy ride”.

I can hack around 20 mph on pan-flat for an hour or two so thought I’d be okay.

So there I was, at the start line, in all my cycling gear, top of the range carbon bike, $1000 wheels and designer cycling clothing.

The guys around me were on older bikes and looked less-prepared than I did.

But boy was I wrong.

After a gentle start for the first 5 minutes these guys lit their afterburners and I was toast.

I was hanging on for grim death at the back of the group for the entire ride.

It was both physically and mentally painful.

Here cometh the lesson (at a leg-burning 25 mph);

It’s not the gear you have, it’s following someone who is wayyyy better than you are and have them drag you up to their level.
