It was 11:23am and I was hurtling down a narrow mountain road on my bike.
I’d only taken enough food to get me part-way knowing so I knew I’d have to pause for nosh at the various pitstops along the way.
So I was going too fast and taking chances because I wanted to make up the time I’d “lose” at the food stops.
I came to a hairpin bend and lost it…

I careered into the deep mud and gravel at the side of the road unable to brake and just held on for dear life trying to ride it out.
I survived. Just.

In the end of the 90-mile circuit I finished 37th out of 240 racers.
