Disciple: “Dude–I love ya man, but sending a marketing email on Easter morning? C’mon, you’re better than that”

Me: “I spread the good marketing word 365. Unsub if this offends.”

Disciple: “I’ll let you in on a good word secret. If you include God in your plans and respect Him and His purposes and refrain from sending out on Sundays and especially Easter & Christmas, you will actually make MORE money.

I realize it doesn’t sound logical but neither was parting the Red Sea and a 100 other miracles I could name.”

Wow.

Well leaving to one side the whole “miracles-dinosaurs-reality” debate for another day let me say that;

Firstly – I never opted in to receive this guy’s religious email message on a Sunday (he had opted in to receive mine).

Secondly – he can unsub at any time from my emails yet he continued to preach to me unsolicited (the above is just one of the email sermons he served up) and;

Thirdly – whether I believe in God or not I disagree wholeheartedly with the guy’s advice to me on email marketing because;

He’s not a successful email marketer.

He might be a great Christian and if I were pursuing a similar path I’d surely hang on every word.

So my lesson from the marketing pulpit today is this:-

Make sure you’re listening to the right people when taking advice about your business.
