As you might know – I’m a keen cyclist and currently gearing up for my first 100 mile ride of the season.

Well, to increase my weekly miles I decided to join a bunch of guys who ride out from a nearby town.

I’d been given forewarning that this was to be a “pacy ride”.

I can hack around 20 mph on pan-flat for an hour or two so thought I’d be okay.

So there I was, at the start line, in all my cycling gear, top of the range carbon bike, $1000 wheels and designer cycling clothing.

The guys around me were on older bikes and looked less-prepared than I did.

But boy was I wrong.

After a gentle start for the first 5 minutes these guys lit their afterburners and I was toast.

I was hanging on for grim death at the back of the group for the entire ride.

It was both physically and mentally painful.

I was the douche everyone hates – the guy with “all the gear and no idea”

Here cometh the lesson (at a leg-burning 25 mph);

It’s not the gear you have, it’s knowing how to use it.

Plus:-

The only way to get better at something is to surround yourself with people who are way better than you are and have them drag you up to their level.

Just like affiliate marketing:-

You can have “all the gear” – affiliate link, website, swipes and even a bonus but if you don’t know how to use it all properly you will be scrapping it out at the back of the affiliate group for tiny commissions.

And trust me – I’ve been there, I know what it’s like and it’s no fun.

The alternative, then, is to surround yourself with people who are much better than you at affiliate marketing so you can get dragged upto their level.

And this is exactly what I did (in the cycling sense by joining that group) and in the affiliate marketing sense by being mentored by Dean Holland.
