And one of my perpetual challenges when riding is to try and become the “King of The Mountain” of the nearest big climb to my home.

This means I have to cycle up this bohemoth faster than anyone ever has.

Well around 5 weeks ago I set myself the target of becoming number 1 on that climb;

I feel it’s my right to own that bad boy.

And the draw to be number 1 is huge.

We all have it.

But it’s not easy as everyone wants the title of being number 1.

So I trained.

Hard.

I did what others wouldn’t so I could try and do what others can’t.

I cycled 130 miles a week for a month straight, I ate right, I got a cycling coach and I spent the GDP of Canada on cycling upgrades for my training program.

Then I tackled the climb.

And my legs exploded.

Not literally of course – but with lactic acid.

Despite all my preparation, hard work, efforts and expensive outlays I still wasn’t able to get number 1.

This is just like trying to get number 1 Google – you can slave away for months, buy expensive software, trawl the web building time-consuming backlinks, do countless hours of frustrating SEO and still not get number 1.
