Sierra Nevada, California, January 1848
James Wilson Marshall, a carpenter building a water-powered sawmill found flakes of gold in the American River.
“It made my heart thump,” Marshall recalled later.
His discovery sparked the Gold Rush.
Throughout 1849, thousands of would-be gold miners, known as ’49ers, spent their life savings or borrowed money to travel to California and chase the vision of fabulous wealth.
Fast-forward to today;
And the basic prospecting ideas are still the same;
– Locate a ‘claim’ – Gather your mining gear – And sift, sift, sift until you strike “gold”.
Yet:
* We do not have to travel to Sierra Nevada to prospect gold. The digital goldmine is right at our fingertips.
* We do not sift soil. We mine DATA.
* And while the Gold Rush was over almost as quickly as it started, the global digital market is getting stronger by the day.
* 1.01 billion people actively use Facebook each day. The number of monthly active users is 1.55 billion.
The potential of reaching even a small fraction of this audience is definitely something to ‘make your heart thump’…
And my good friend Iva Embley is a professional, forensic data miner who is going to show you exactly where the “gold” is on Facebook and how to get it;
